Navicare Service now operating in Clermont!

Isaac Navicare is now offering face-to-face care navigation services in Clermont, Queensland! This will positively impact the local community, which is already familiar with the Navicare Service, as they have been providing remote support to the Clermont community for close to three years.

With one in five Australians experiencing mental illness each year, and limitations in accessing mental health services within regional and remote areas a burgeoning issue, that’s where Navicare’s Health Navigation Service comes in. Isaac Navicare’s commitment to supporting and enabling people from these regional, rural, and remote communities to seek much-needed help and information on mental health, has had an immeasurable impact on their local communities, and on reducing the load on our regional Hospital and Health Services.  Realising the positive impacts it has had on the Moranbah community since 2021, has spurred further research and interest in opening new Health Navigation services across rural and remote communities.

Mental Health Care Navigators from the Isaac Navicare service will be visiting the Clermont  Community Housing and Other Services (CCHAOSI/Lagoona) centre every Thursday from 9am – 3pm and are available by phone every weekday by calling (07) 4941 9784. The role of the Care Navigator is to link help-seekers with all the support services they may need to improve their mental well-being. The Care Navigator can assist with referrals, making appointments with mental health care professionals, and providing a private space in which to access online mental health support from online psychology partners, as well as a range of other support services the person might require.

In collaboration with Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Wesley Research Institute and the care navigation team is now undertaking ‘The Bridging Study’, a project evaluating the Navicare service and which will work to implement new Navicare sites and Care Navigators across the Greater Whitsundays area. The Bridging Study will run until 2026 and has been funded by a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Partnership Grant. The study is led by researchers from the Australian Centre for Health Services Innovation (AusHSI) at QUT, in collaboration with researchers at James Cook University, and the University of California San Diego, and in partnership with Wesley Research Institute, Beyond Blue, Isaac Regional Council and Greater Whitsundays Communities.

The Navicare team encourages anyone within the Clermont area in need of mental health assistance and support to reach out to our Care Navigators, who provide a free, individualised and discreet mental health navigation service. Support is tailored to each person’s circumstances, and considers clinician preferences, specialist areas of support required and financial situation.

The Bridging Study team are interested in hearing from members of the Clermont and Moranbah community who have utilised the service so far to participate in research. For more information see https://www.navicare.org.au/navicare-news/wed-like-to-hear-from-you .

If you are interested in sharing your thoughts and ideas, and participating in an interview please email Bridging.Study@qut.edu.au. To find out more about the project, visit AusHSUI webpage, or email the address above and they will be happy to share more information.
